Top Energy Saving Tips

Cutting your energy bills may seem like an impossible task, but following these simple tips might just help you start saving on your electricity bill. Over time, the money saved from making just a few small changes can really begin to add up, leaving you more money to spend on the things that matter most!

Insulation is a cheap fix

When you are paying to heat your home, you don’t want a third of this heat to be escaping through drafts, windows and doors. Insulating around your windows with foam insulation strips and using draught excluders by your doors are cheap, long term ways to save yourself some money.
A lot of heat can also be lost through your loft if it is not insulated correctly. According to The Energy Savings Trust, your loft should have at least 27 cm of insulation in order to keep your heat trapped in. Loft insulation is a pricier method of insulation but you could be saving well over £100 each year so it soon pays for itself!

Invest in LED bulbs

With a lifespan of 25 000- 50 000 hours, LED bulbs can last up to fifty times longer than traditional light bulbs. While they may be more expensive initially, they cost as little as £1.71 to run for a year and the savings speak for themselves.
LED bulb are also much more efficient and the cheapest long term by far and they pay for themselves in savings in just a few years.

Try an electricity monitor

Electricity monitors show you how much electricity you are currently using and how much you have used throughout the day. Becoming more aware of how much energy you are using can be a helpful tool when it comes to cutting down, as you can see what appliances use the most.
Electricity monitors are available online or from your energy company, depending on who your provider is.

Switch appliances off

As simple as it seems, switching appliances of when you are finished with them can save you valuable money through the year. If you aren’t using it, what’s the point in paying for the energy to power it? Switch appliances off at the plug, rather than leaving them on standby.
