When should you call out an electrician?

When should you call out an electrician?

Electrical jobs can come with many hazards and even the smallest of DIYs can be dangerous when electricity is involved. There are some electrical issues you can fix yourself, but others should always be left to the professional electricians! We have made a handy guide showing you which is which. Your safety is our priority, so we are happy to help with any electrical problem across the Derby area.

DIY Safe projects

If you have any of the following issues in your home, it is safe for you to fix the problem by yourself. Never attempt anything you aren’t comfortable with, as our team are happy to help with even the smallest of problems.

Faulty dimmer switches

Dimmer switches usually malfunction due to poor installation or low-grade materials. These are simple fixes for you to do.

Bulb blowouts

If your bulbs regularly blow out, it is probably to do with the wattage of your bulb. Replace it with a low wattage LED bulb to solve the issue.

Simple circuit overloads

By simple, we mean overloads caused by too many appliances being plugged into one outlet. All you need to do is spread out your appliances more evenly across other outlets, or unplug them completely.

Jobs to leave to our electricians

All of the following problems should not be attempted yourself. Call out one of our electricians today;

Flickering lights

Flickering lights are caused by a loose connection and can lead to a fire if not solved properly.

Breakers tripping

If you have reduced your circuit overload and the breaker is still tripping, this may be caused by a short circuit. Our electricians will be happy to fix this for you.

Any buzzing or humming sounds

If you hear any humming or buzzing coming from wires, breakers or outlets, flip you breaker off ASAP. Humming usually means a breaker is overloaded but can’t trip, so call out an electrician to resolve this.

Low power supply

If your 60 amp service doesn’t supply enough energy to your home, our electricians can install a bigger, more modern wiring system to meet your demand.

Any issue in a damp/moisture-prone area

Even the DIY safe issues can be threatening if carried out in a damp area, so leave it to our team of electricians instead. Water and electricity do not mix.
